Elec Training Carbon Reduction Plan (2024-2050)
Baseline Emissions Assessment
Data Collection
We will conduct a baseline assessment of our current carbon footprint, covering key sources of emissions, including energy use (electricity, gas, heating), travel (business travel and commuting), waste generation, and resource consumption.
Measurement Period
This will be conducted annually, with data collected for the previous year to track progress against the baseline.
Emission Reduction Targets
Short-Term Target (2024-2025)
Achieve a 10% reduction in carbon emissions across our operations.
Medium-Term Target (2026-2030)
Achieve a 30% reduction in carbon emissions across our operations.
Long-Term Target (2031-2050)
Achieve Net Zero GHG emissions by 2050, in line with UK government policy.
Key Areas of Action
Energy Efficiency
Buildings
Improve energy efficiency in our training facilities by upgrading insulation, windows, and implementing energy-efficient lighting systems. Move towards using 100% renewable electricity for all operations.
Equipment
Ensure all electrical equipment, including training tools, are energy-efficient (e.g., switching to Energy Star-rated appliances, LED lighting, and energy-saving software for computers and printers
Smart Metering
Implement smart meters and energy management software to monitor and reduce energy consumption.
Green Procurement:
Sustainable Suppliers
Only engage with suppliers who have demonstrated their own commitment to sustainability and who offer low-carbon products.
Sustainable Materials
Use recycled, reusable, or sustainable materials in our training facilities and for administrative needs (e.g., paper, uniforms, office supplies).
Travel and Commuting
Vehicle Fleet
Transition to a fully electric vehicle fleet for all company cars, delivery, and transportation needs by 2030.
Employee Travel
Encourage employees to use public transport, carpool, or bicycles for commuting. Provide incentives for sustainable travel options (e.g., cycle-to-work schemes, electric vehicle charging stations).
Remote Training
Increase the use of virtual training to reduce travel-related emissions, especially for client meetings, courses, and administrative functions.
Waste Management
Reduce Waste
Implement policies to reduce paper and plastic waste through digitization and recycling programs.
Recycling:
Ensure that all waste produced by the company, including electrical waste (e.g., used electrical equipment, batteries), is responsibly recycled
Carbon Offsetting
For emissions that are difficult to eliminate, we will invest in carbon offset programs, such as tree planting and renewable energy projects, to neutralize our carbon footprint.
Monitoring and Reporting
Carbon Footprint Monitoring
We will regularly track and report on our emissions using industry-recognized carbon accounting standards such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
Annual Review
The plan will be reviewed annually to assess progress and set new targets, if necessary.
Transparency
Progress will be published in an annual sustainability report to be shared with stakeholders, clients, and employees.
Governance and Accountability
Dedicated Sustainability Officer
Appoint a sustainability officer to oversee and drive our carbon reduction initiatives.
Employee Engagement
Encourage employees to participate in sustainability initiatives through training and awareness campaigns. Offer rewards and incentives for employees who contribute towards emissions reductions (e.g., by using public transport or reducing waste).
Regular Audits
Independent audits will be conducted every two years to assess the effectiveness of the Carbon Reduction Plan and ensure compliance with regulations.
Conclusion
By implementing this Carbon Reduction Plan, Elec Training is committed to reducing our carbon emissions and contributing to the UK’s goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050. Through energy efficiency improvements, sustainable procurement, waste reduction, and a transition to greener travel, we aim to lead by example in the electrical training industry.
