Domestic Experienced Worker Qualification (C&G 2347)
The Domestic Experienced Worker Qualification (City & Guilds 2347) is designed for electricians with extensive experience in domestic installations who have not gained a full Level 3 qualification. It assesses the knowledge, practical skills, and professional standards you already apply on-site, measuring your competence against current industry requirements, including BS 7671 and relevant Building Regulations. Successful completion provides an industry-recognised Level 3 qualification, enabling progression to the AM2ED assessment and supporting application for the ECS Domestic Electrician Gold Card, subject to scheme criteria.

Why Take the Domestic Experienced Worker Qualification (C&G 2347)?
The Domestic Experienced Worker Qualification (2347) is tailored for electricians who have built up solid hands-on experience in domestic installations but have never gained a full Level 3 qualification. It’s designed to recognise the skills you already use every day and assess them against current UK industry expectations through practical, workplace-based evidence.
Throughout the process, you’ll demonstrate your ability to carry out domestic installations safely and competently, complete inspection and testing, diagnose faults, and work in line with BS 7671 and relevant Building Regulations.
Once achieved, the qualification provides formal recognition of your competence and supports your next step towards the AM2ED and ECS Domestic Electrician Gold Card, subject to meeting the required criteria.
What Will I Learn On This Course?
Course Snapshot
This qualification is completed while you remain in employment. After an initial eligibility review, you will build a portfolio of real workplace evidence demonstrating your competence.
An assessor will carry out site visits and professional discussions to confirm your practical ability and technical understanding. Any identified knowledge gaps are addressed before final assessment and sign-off.
Requirement
To enrol on this route, you must be actively employed in domestic electrical installation and carrying out work that covers a broad range of installation tasks. You should have several years of hands-on industry experience and be confident working to current UK standards.
Ongoing access to live projects is required so you can generate authentic workplace evidence. Suitability is confirmed through an initial screening and competency discussion prior to registration.
Why take this course?
If you’ve spent years working on domestic installations but never had the chance to gain a recognised qualification, this course is your opportunity to make your experience count. It’s aimed at electricians who are already confident in their work and simply need formal recognition to match their practical ability.
Rather than putting you back in a classroom unnecessarily, the focus is on assessing the skills you use every day on site. It’s about validating your competence, confirming you meet current industry standards, and giving you the qualification that reflects your real-world experience.
For many electricians, this course is the step that turns “experienced” into “officially qualified,” helping you move forward with greater confidence and professional credibility.
Course Content
The Domestic Experienced Worker Qualification is structured to reflect the work you already carry out as a practising electrician. Instead of traditional classroom-based learning, the emphasis is on proving your competence through real jobs completed in domestic settings.
As part of the assessment process, you will demonstrate your ability to:
Work safely and follow current health and safety legislation
Install, maintain, and modify domestic electrical systems in accordance with BS 7671
Carry out inspection, testing, and certification correctly
Identify and resolve faults efficiently and safely
Plan, organise, and complete electrical work to a professional standard
Your evidence will be gathered through workplace documentation, site observations, and professional discussions with your assessor. The portfolio you build will showcase the breadth and depth of your experience, ensuring the qualification genuinely reflects your practical skills and industry competence.
