Who is this course for?
To enrol on the Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification (2346), you must be currently working in the electrotechnical industry and able to provide evidence of substantial on-site experience, typically a minimum of five years.
This route is intended for practising electricians who do not already hold a recognised Level 3 electrotechnical qualification but are working to industry standard.
You must have access to a suitable workplace to gather portfolio evidence across installation, inspection and testing, and fault diagnosis activities. Course Content
The Experienced Worker Qualification (2346) is structured to evaluate your real-world competence as a practising electrician and confirm that your work meets current UK industry standards. The qualification includes assessment of:
Installation of wiring systems, containment, and associated equipment
Inspection, testing, and accurate completion of certification
Diagnosing and rectifying electrical faults
Safe isolation and effective risk control procedures
Working in accordance with BS 7671 and current regulations
Compliance with health and safety legislation
Planning, organising, and managing electrotechnical tasks

Can I apply for an ECS Gold Card after completing this qualification?
Yes. Successful completion of the 2346 qualification, along with meeting current ECS requirements (including AM2E and relevant regulations qualifications), supports eligibility for the ECS Gold Card (Installation Electrician).
Do I need to attend college regularly?
No. This is a workplace-based qualification. Most of your evidence is gathered from real on-site work, supported by assessor visits and professional discussions. You will attend an approved centre for the AM2E assessment.
How long does the qualification take?
Completion typically takes between 6 and 18 months, depending on your experience, availability of evidence, and how quickly you complete the required assessments.
What kind of evidence do I need to provide?
You will compile a portfolio demonstrating competence in installation work, inspection and testing, fault diagnosis, safe isolation, and compliance with BS 7671 and health and safety legislation. Evidence may include job sheets, certificates, photos, risk assessments, and assessor observations.
Is the AM2E included in this qualification?

What happens if I do not meet the entry requirements?
If you do not have sufficient industry experience, you may be advised to complete an apprenticeship or Level 3 NVQ route instead. An initial skills scan will determine suitability before enrolment.
