What is the C&G 2357 NVQ Level 3?
The City and Guilds 2357 NVQ Level 3 is the ideal next step for those who have less than five years of experience and are working towards or have recently completed their Level 2 2365-02 and Level 3 2365-03 Diplomas in Electrical Installation.
This qualification is designed to assess the practical skills and knowledge you have developed both during your training and while working on site. It focuses on your real-world ability to carry out electrical work safely and to a high standard.
Once you complete the NVQ and pass the AM2 assessment, you will be eligible to apply for a ECS JIB Gold Card, a key industry credential that confirms your professional status and opens the door to better job opportunities.
What Will I Learn On This Course?
Why Take the C&G 2357 NVQ Level 3?
The City and Guilds 2357 NVQ Level 3 is the ideal next step for those who have less than five years of experience and are working towards or have recently completed their Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas in Electrical Installation.
This qualification is designed to assess the practical skills and knowledge you have developed both during your training and while working on site. It focuses on your real-world ability to carry out electrical work safely and to a high standard.
Once you complete the NVQ and pass the AM2 assessment, you will be officially recognised as a qualified electrician. This also makes you eligible to apply for a JIB Gold Card, a key industry credential that confirms your professional status and opens the door to better job opportunities.
Who is this course for?
TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS NVQ YOU MUST
- Be working full-time in the electrical installation industry / we will help you find work
- Have achieved, or be working towards Diploma Level 3 (C&G 2365, 8202, or other awarding organisation equivalent)
- Hold or be working towards an 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
How long does it take?
The length of time that the NVQ takes will depend on how quickly you can cover the different types of work required to complete all the units. As a rough guide, we find most people will complete it in 6-18 months.
If you have been working in the industry for some time, existing jobs can be used as evidence to speed the process up.
If you have a large variety of work, you can complete it quicker; if you are doing the same thing day in and day out, then you will find it harder to provide the full range of evidence required.

Course Assessments
Instead of three fixed, full-day assessment visits, we carry out on-site assessments to evaluate your progress and competence against national standards. This approach offers greater flexibility, allowing assessments to be arranged at a time and location that suits you. Please note that on-site assessments and online assessments are subject to an additional charge. An online assessment option is available in exceptional circumstances only.
The following assessments will be used during your NVQ:
- Witness testimony
- Reflective accounts
- Photographic evidence
- Direct observation
On completion, you will receive a formal Level 3 NVQ certificate from C&G, the UK’s leading provider of vocational qualifications.
AM2 Assessment
The cost of this NVQ does not include the cost of the AM2 assessment, which is required as your end-point assessment. You can book this when you are ready directly with numerous AM2 test centres throughout the UK
Please note that you must bring photographic ID such as a passport or driving license with you in order to sit the assessments on this course. Exams for remote learning can be booked in via student services once you are ready. On in centre elements exams take place at the end of each week.
Learner Feedback
“I started training in electrics a couple of years ago but was struggling to get fully qualified with the company I was with. After speaking with Elec Training, I decided to sign up for the NVQ in Electrical Installations. Finding work in Sheffield hasn’t been easy, but Josh stayed in regular contact with MPN from the moment I registered. Thanks to his support, I’ve now been offered a position with the company and I’m ready to begin my NVQ. Really impressed with how proactive and helpful Elec Training have been throughout — would definitely recommend.”
“I signed up for the NVQ with Elec Training based on their promise to help me find employment to complete my qualification—and they delivered exactly as they said they would! Not only have I secured a new job after my hours were reduced with my previous company, but I’m now working with a company that will support me in completing my NVQ. Big thanks to Josh from recruitment for making it happen! Highly recommend Elec Training for anyone looking to get into the electrical industry.”
“I signed up with Elec Training to complete my NVQ and achieve my Gold Card. I chose them because they are one of the few companies that help people find work placements outside of apprenticeships. This was crucial for me since I’m no longer eligible for an apprenticeship and couldn’t afford to take a role at apprentice wages. Their support has made a huge difference in my journey, and I highly recommend them to anyone in a similar position.”
FAQ’s
What is NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation?
The NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation is a work-based qualification that assesses your practical skills in electrical installation. It’s a key requirement for becoming a fully qualified electrician in the UK, typically completed after a Level 3 diploma, ensuring you meet industry safety and competence standards.
Can I start working with just the City & Guilds 2365 Level 2/3 diploma, or do I also need an NVQ?
While the City & Guilds 2365 Level 2/3 diploma gives you a solid theoretical foundation, most employers in the UK also require an NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) to prove your practical skills and workplace competence. The NVQ Level 3 is typically needed to work as a fully qualified electrician.
How long does it take to complete NVQ Level 3 Electrical?
It usually takes 6 to 18 months to complete, depending on your prior experience and how quickly you can gather workplace evidence. The final AM2 assessment takes a few days.
How much does NVQ Level 3 Electrical cost?
The NVQ Level 3 with Elec Training costs £2,500, plus £500 per on-site assessment visit required to complete your portfolio. Your assessor will confirm how many visits you’ll need based on the evidence you’re able to provide from your existing workplace.
Is the AM2 assessment included in NVQ fees, or is it usually an extra cost?
The AM2 is usually an extra cost, often around £700, and is not typically included in NVQ fees.
Does completing the NVQ 2357 allow me to get an ECS Gold Card or JIB Gold Card, or do I need extra qualifications?
Yes, completing the NVQ 2357 and AM2 qualifies you for an ECS Gold Card. The JIB Gold Card also recognises these, though additional qualifications like Inspection & Testing can boost your credentials.
What's the difference between the NVQ 2357 and 2346 routes?
NVQ 2357 is designed for those who’ve completed a Level 3 diploma (e.g., City & Guilds 2365) and need to show workplace competence — ideal for learners building practical experience. NVQ 2346, known as the Experienced Worker Route, is for electricians with at least 5 years of verifiable experience but no formal qualifications, allowing them to gain recognition without repeating foundational training.
How can I get the practical experience (e.g., mate roles or agency work) needed for the NVQ after my diploma?
After your diploma, look for electrician’s mate roles, temporary agency work, or apprenticeships to gain hands-on experience. Job boards, local electrical firms, and networking with tradespeople can help. It typically takes 1–2 years to build enough experience.
